What can you tell us about Black Prophecy? |
Kirk Lenke: |
Black Prophecy is a fast-paced 3D space MMOG (Massively Multiplayer Online Game) with state-of-the art graphics and thrilling real-time combat. In contrast to competing games, we are focussing on exciting PvE and PvP game content that players can experience without investing excessive amounts of time. Thus our target audience is definitely the casual gamer who wants to jump into the cockpit in his leisure time and take on the numerous challenges of the Black Prophecy universe, alone or together with his friends. Like in our previous MMORPGs Neocron and Neocron 2 we are striving once more to offer a breathtaking atmosphere and have spared no expense or effort, even going so far as to engage a professional author to achieve this effect. Black Prophecy setting and story have been created by the award-winning sci-fi author Michael Marrak, who carries the player off into a complex and vibrant universe full of epic conflicts. |

What challenges are faced by a company looking to release a new sci-fi based MMO? |
Kirk Lenke: |
First and foremost it is a challenge to differentiate clearly from the already published sci-fi titles such as Eve Online. It is not our aim to copycat a successful model, but to meet our own standards and to provide a special and unique game experience. Our previous MMORPGs Neocron and Neocron 2 drew heavily from this basic motivation to create something extraordinary. From a technical point of view it has also been a huge challenge to develop a game like Black Prophecy from scratch. The real-time combat system, in particular, within a three dimensional space and in connection with a high performance network system requires a high degree of specific domain knowledge and experience. From the designer point of view it has been very important to us to implement the universe created by Michael Marrak as visually coherent and atmospheric as possible. In comparison to other settings, the space scenario in of itself offers far less possibilities to craft a breathtaking game world. Thus it was quite a challenge to recruit talented designers and artists who were capable of creating highly sophisticated and atmospheric game environments. Our human resource department definitely did a fantastic job in finding and recruiting the aforementioned specialists that met our high quality standards. |

What business model do you plan to use for BP and why? |
Kirk Lenke: |
A final decision about the business model has not yet been made. We have been carefully evaluating all available models and will make the final decision based on the wishes of our publisher and our players. |
MMORPG.com: |
Your website promises an innovative mission system. Can you let us know what kind of innovation we can expect to see? |
Kirk Lenke: |
Black Prophecy's mission system uses a sophisticated mechanism that provides a high degree of diversity by generating PvE and PvP missions using numerous randomly selected parameters. This includes solo missions, as well as cooperative missions where members of a player group can be assigned to specific mission targets. Regrettably, we are currently unable to go into details and will present more information on the mission system in due time. |

How will advancement work in Black Prophecy? |
Kirk Lenke: |
Although the focus is on a fast-paced action oriented game experience, Black Prophecy will also have a role-play like character system. The player will start at zero and receive experience points by accomplishing missions. With increasing experience points the player levels up and obtains access to better versions of items, like ship modules, weapons and modifications. |
MMORPG.com: |
Your website bills the game as a next generation action MMO. Can you tell us what makes this game next generation? |
Kirk Lenke: |
With the term next generation action MMO we are combining a number of approaches to offer a completely new game experience. Key features of this new game experience include the use of a state-of-the-art graphics engine and a fast and exciting real-time combat system that makes it possible for the player to enjoy an as intense as possible gaming experience. Other features include the innovative mission system, the extensive and flexible modular system for ships and space stations, and a fast levelling curve, giving players access to all areas of the game with relatively little time invested. |
MMORPG.com: |
Your website indicates that the game will have a focus on guilds (called clans), allowing them to own their own space stations. How will that work? |
Kirk Lenke: |
Once created, the clan will be able to purchase and own a space station to use as home base. Building upon the basic version, the station can be extended with a multiplicity of different modules, providing different services, to adjust the station to the clan needs and desires. |
MMORPG.com: |
Will PvP play a large role in BP? |
Kirk Lenke: |
Player vs. Player combat will play a big role in the endgame content, while we are also making sure to involve players already at early stages of character development. Within a certain scope we will make it possible for low level players to experience exciting PvP combat together with high level players. For this purpose, special PvP missions will be available in which large player groups of different levels can engage each other. |
Some gameplay footage:
Black Prophecy uses the latest in graphics technology to produce breathtaking visuals.
Black Prophecy is more action-oriented than a traditional space simulation. We are trying to avoid long travel times or other activities where the player isn't really doing anything.
Black Prophecy allows players to organize big PvP battles and also offers varied PvP missions.
Black Prophecy's universe, story and background has been created by the award-winning Sci-Fi author Michael Marrak.
Player ships are not sold as whole, but instead consist of modules like cockpits, wings, engines etc. All these modules are available in different shapes and sizes, which allows the players to customize their ships.
In addition to the modular ship design, players can also further customize their ships by adding modifications to their ship's modules and weapons.
Player clans can build clan stations that are expandable through a module system. Different modules add different functionalities to the station.
Clans can fight each other to conquer resource stations.
Similar to an achievement system, players can earn medals and awards for performing specific tasks.
Players can learn and execute breakneck flight maneuvers.

In the 26th century, mankind has expanded across the galaxy, yet only few of its colonies are controlled by Humans. The true rulers are the cybernetically enhanced Tyi and the biogenetically perfected Genides. Their striving for total control over all human species drives them into the territory of an ancient alien race that does not tolerate other cosmic civilisations: the “Restorers”.
To survive this war and uncover the motives of the alien’s destructive behaviour, you are forced to join one of the two dominant human races. Their search for the origin of the Restorers becomes a race for survival of all three human species.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Tyi-protectors were created after the first species wars and are the second superhuman species besides the Genides. Contrary to their genetically manipulated arch-enemies, they have completely devoted their bodies to cybernetics (at first as part of the project, later of their own will).
The trigger for the cybernetic project on Sabiador was its inhabitants' increasing fear of a retaliatory strike by the Genides that surpassed them both physically and mentally. The designation Tyi [pronounced Tai] is an abbreviation for Tactical Yeomen Inhabitants (T.Y.I.).
Almost a century after the creation of the first Tyi-protectors, the burning desire for independence awoke in this new human species that was already in the millions – it peaked in the so-called cybernetic exodus. Many of the Tyi created on Sabiador traveled through space and founded the now powerful colonies Atebathos, Murna and Irata IV.
The Tyi have superhuman strength and endurance. They are resistant to radiation, have independent bloodstreams as well as backup organs, speak all languages and are true multitaskers. They also gather and process data at an increased rate.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To be able to better resist the unusual and partially hostile environments in space and on the colony planets, the colonists started experimenting with physical and psychic manipulations on select test subjects a long time ago. The first positive experiments probably took place shortly after the second diaspora started. While some preferred manipulations at the cybernetic level, in form of implants, technical extremities and artificial organs, others did not trust body-bound technology and completely focused on the many possibilities of biogenesis.
The first of the two new human species was created on Sabiador, the apparently aesthetic Genides. They require barely any sleep, heal wounds quickly and can communicate telepathically. In addition, most of them are resistant to disease and epidemics, think faster, detect ultra- and infra-sounds and have a long life expectancy.
After the first species wars and the expulsion of the Genides from Sabiador, six million refugees found a new home on the planet Delta Pavonis II. After being renamed to Geneera, the planet rapidly developed into a respectable economic power.
New generation Genides are exceptionally slim, tall and cultivate very aesthetic bodies. Their heads and bodies are completely hairless (aside from the eyebrows, which are considered a beauty attribute), as body hair is considered a relic of evolution. They wear synthetic or half-organic headgear instead, in form of imaginative wigs, hoods, hats, cloth, etc. as well as organic or half-organic, partially transparent and often also bioluminescent suits.
The Genides' feudal society is based on a pre modern, aristocratically dominated culture, which has taken a military orientation due to the constant threat by the Jadd Baran and the Tyi.

Now I'm putting these videos in about Earth and Beyond because I'm hoping the Black prophecy creaters will take notice and implement some of the good points from Earth and Beyond.
